
Joe "J.D." Foster
Joe "J.D." Foster has been a professional musician for 15 years. He joined The John Penny Band in November 2006, playing his first show with the band in February 2007. He is the drummer in The John Penny band and also sings occasional lead and harmony vocals. Besides the drums, he also plays guitar and bass.
J.D.'s credits include providing onstage drumming as a backing musician for a number of nationally and internationally known artists. Some of these include: Jay Siegel & The Tokens, The Flamingos, George Galfo's Mystics, Bobby Lewis, Eugene Pitt &The Jive Five, Dave Somerville of The Diamonds, Shep's Limelites, The Original Vandellas, The Contours with Joe Billingslea, and Big Al Downing. He has also opened for The California Transit Authority (CTA), and has shared the stage with The Belmonts, Gene Chandler, and Jimmy Beaumont & The Skyliners.
With The John Penny Band, J.D. has also backed Tommy Cash, Kenny Roberts, and Rex Trailer, and has opened for Loretta Lynn, Charlie Thomas and The Drifters, Shirley Reeves of The Shirelles, 38 Special, and The Crystals.
J.D. was the winner of the 2005 & 2006 Massachusetts Country Music Association (MCMAA) Drummer Of The Year Award, and the 2005 MCMAA Board Of Directors award. He was the drummer in the MCMAA awards show band from 2006-2009. In addition, J.D. was the co-producer of the MCMAA awards show in 2008, and the music director in 2009. He was also the New England Country Music Organization (NECMO) award show drummer in 2009, The Rhode Island Country Horizons(RICH) award show drummer in 2006, and the Rhode Island Steel Guitar Association (RISGA) annual steel show drummer from 2006-2008.
J.D. has performed in 10 states and 3 foreign countries: South Korea, Bermuda, and Mexico. In 2003, He completed a 4 1/2 month tour of U.S. Military bases in South Korea, entertaining U.S. Army and Air Force personnel. He received a Certificate Of Appreciation from United States Forces Korea, and a Citation from the State of New Hampshire and then Governor Craig Benson, for this work. He has entertained on 4 cruise ships: The Norwegian Majesty, Dream, and Spirit, and the Carnival Elation.
Now in his 4th year with The John Penny Band, J.D. looks forward to continuing to work with such a great group of guys, and seeing many familiar faces, and many new ones, at the shows.
